Mayhem’s Misfits #2!
You know, I say “misfits” mostly because of the alliteration, and because a good D&D party will be a motley crew. (Unless, of course, you’re indulging in an Oops, All Bards! campaign.)
Ronick was one of those instances where I got super excited about going off the beaten path. The character outline I had was pretty sketchy, and I really like to draw non-Western design elements into my work, so I went to town in the first sketch on a set of samurai-inspired armor I thought the player would be super jazzed about. Turned out, not so much.
To be fair, I have no idea how the player explores Ronick, and whether or not they hew to archetypes in terms of character and backstory, but what they did want was traditional, European-style knight’s armor, and I was out a few hours of research and work. A good lesson that helped me further develop my questionnaire I use to get to know characters better, and to ask questions rather than running off with my own ideas willy-nilly.
