Wanted: Leilani Lamb, a.k.a. Hummingbird

This one was great fun, and a bit more work than pretty girls usually are for me. For one thing, getting the coloration right on the dress was tricky - way too easy to tip into Lisa Frank territory. But I loved doing the mix of hard leather and soft draping silks to give a hint of the poison lurking behind the pretty exterior.

Looking at her now, there are quite a few things I might do differently, but one thing I’m really happy with is actually the soft wash of color in the background. I always try for something like this and it takes a weirdly long time. A costume designer I work with does it with actual watercolor - no takebacks! - and I don’t know how he gets it so it just perfectly frames the figure each time. (Couldn’t be decades of practice or anything.)
